If you missed one of the earlier PB49 Neighborhood Assemblies where 49th Ward residents are coming up with ideas on how to spend the ward’s $1 million discretionary budget, you have your chance tonight to get in on the action!
Join your neighbors and me at the next 49th Ward Participatory Budgeting Neighborhood Assembly TONIGHT (Monday, April 30th) at the Pottawattomie Park Fieldhouse, 7340 N. Rogers (just west of the Metra tracks). Pizza courtesy of J.B. Alberto’s Pizza, will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will start promptly at 7:00 p.m.
You and your neighbors will learn about Participatory Budgeting, the process where the taxpayers vote directly on how to spend a portion of a government budget, and begin to share your ideas about the kind of infrastructure projects you believe the neighborhood needs.
If you can’t make tonight’s meeting, two other Neighborhood Assemblies–one in English and one in Spanish–are coming up later this week (see schedule below). You need attend only one of the meetings and you can go to any meeting in the ward.
We had tremendous attendance and energy at the first three Neighborhood Assemblies. Forty-ninth ward residents are clearly hungering to participate in something positive after all the disturbing events occurring in our nation’s capitol. Nearly half the meeting attendees volunteered to serve as “community representatives,” who will work over the next several months to turn the ideas collected at the assemblies into final project proposals that will be presented to the voters next spring.
You can be involved as much or as little as your schedule permits, but get involved. Be a part of this history-making democratic process!
Below is the schedule for the remaining Neighborhood Assemblies:
