I am sponsoring an Information Session on the City’s new Bed Bug Ordinance, Wednesday, October 23rd, 6:30 p.m. at Field Elementary School, 7019 N. Ashland (between Lunt and Greenleaf). Enter at the Lunt Avenue entrance. Free parking is available in the parking lot behind the school and is accessible from Greenleaf Avenue.
The City Council passed the ordinance last summer to address the growing epidemic of bed bugs in our City. The ordinance, which is scheduled to go into effect in December, places responsibilities on landlords, tenants and condominium and co-operative associations in an effort to control, treat and eradicate the pests.
Representatives from the City of Chicago Departments of Law, Public Health, Buildings and Administrative Hearings, will be on hand to explain the ordinance and its requirements. They will be joined by Ruth Kerzee of the Midwest Pesticide Action Center, who will provide an overview of the bed bug problem and offer recommendations on treating and eradicating the problem from your home or building.

Bed bugs can afflict any household regardless of location or economic class, and they can enter your home without a moment’s notice. Even if you don’t currently have a bed bug issue in your home or building, I urge you to attend this informative meeting.
