The CTA will close the intersection of Lunt and the west side of Glenwood this Saturday, June 9th, to complete concrete work on the Lunt CTA viaduct, including replacement of the viaduct parapet.
Lunt Avenue under the viaduct will be closed to through traffic Saturday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Southbound Glenwood (west of the tracks) will be closed at the Lunt intersection and only local traffic will be allowed south of Greenleaf. Northbound Glenwood (east of the tracks) will remain open to through traffic.
The north sidewalk under the viaduct will be closed to pedestrian traffic. The south sidewalk and the Lunt entrance to the Morse “L” station will remain open, although flaggers may occasionally close the entrance during a hoisting operation which is scheduled to take place between 12 Noon and 2 p.m.
The CTA will NOT impose any parking restrictions, and weekend bus and train service will run as normal. This is a Saturday-only operation. The Glenwood Sunday Market will operate at its usual location on Glenwood between Lunt and Morse this Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This is a continuation of the project the CTA has undertaken to improve the tracks, viaducts and stations at Morse, Lunt and Jarvis. Last week, the CTA began its work at the Morse and Lunt station with extensive track work and unannounced street closures. The CTA apologized for the lack of notice and the agency since then has worked closely with my office to develop a work plan for the rest of the summer.
Another series of extensive street closures and parking restrictions is set to occur next weekend when the CTA finishes its Lunt/Morse track work, beginning Thursday morning, June 14th through Monday morning, June 18th. I am working with the CTA to minimize as much as possible disruption to the local residents and businesses. I anticipate the street closure and parking restriction plan will be finalized over the next few days and I will share it with you no later than next Monday, June 11th.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office at email@example.com or contact the CTA directly through Jeff Wilson, the CTA’s Government and Community Relations Officer, firstname.lastname@example.org.
