My Ward Superintendent, Greg Wagner, reports to me that by the close of business today all 172 alleys in the 49th Ward should be cleared of enough snow to make them passable. He also tells me that we’ve finally caught up on garbage collection and we’re back on schedule. Once again, I thank Greg and his crew for a job well done in the face of extraordinary challenges.
Assuming we get to keep our snow removal equipment, Greg will now turn his attention to clearing from the main arterial streets snow piles that continue to impede traffic flow and take up scarce parking spaces. This includes portions of Touhy and Rogers Avenue.
If you have any question or concerns about the condition of your alleys or other issues, please e-mail or call my office at firstname.lastname@example.org or 773-338-5796. With respect to the alleys, please keep in mind the City does not have the resources to clear the alleys as though they are streets. They are simply cleared enough to make them passable. You may still experience ice and packed snow in alleys, and you should exercise due caution when driving in them.
Unless some unexpected emergency arises, this will be the last update for last week’s winter storm. If, heaven forbid, we are struck by another large winter storm, I will once again provide you with regular updates on our progress in addressing the issues that arise from it.
Thanks for your patience and cooperation.
