You may have noticed some of our flooded corners draining a bit better during this week’s rain. That’s because Dan Murphy, my ward superintendent, put on his hip waders and cleared as much debris as he could from the sewer grates.
Now, the City’s Department of Water Management and its vacuum trucks are in the 49th Ward today to finish the job. At my office’s request, Water Commissioner Tom Powers has sent in crews of Water Department employees to clear up chronic clogged sewer problems at over 16 locations in Rogers Park.
If you know of a clogged sewer, please report it to my office by replying to this email or calling 773-338-5796.
Please keep in mind that not all standing water issues are due to clogged sewers. Frequently, standing watter is caused by a street or curb that is pitched improperly and is a problem that will need to be rectified by the City’s Department of Transportation. So before you report a standing water issue to my office, please make sure to determine if at all possible whether a clogged sewer is under the standing water.
Thanks for your help. Let’s hope for a dry weekend!
