The Glenwood Sunday Market is on a roll! Voted Illinois’ Favorite Farmers Market in 2010 and Illinois’ Favorite Small Farmers Market in 2011, the Glenwood Sunday Market is truly a unique farmers market.
The contest is organized by American Farmland Trust and the winner of the contest receives a cash prize. That money would go a long way because, aside from a small subsidy from the Morse/Glenwood SSA and part-time help from one of my staff assistants, the Glenwood Sunday Market is funded entirely by private donations.
The Glenwood Sunday Market is back on its home block again this weekend on Glenwood west of the tracks between Morse and Lune. I hope you’ll come out and visit, Sunday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Beet the heat with some incredible beets from Montalbano Farms–and there’s much more! From zucchini to peaches, blueberries to pasta and sausage to mushrooms!
Stop by the 49th Ward Green Corps tent in the middle of the market and check out our fantastic education programs. This week we’re offering three great programs:
- Linda Szarkowski of Green Spirit Living will be making a fabulous raw dist of mushrooms with herbs.
- Becky Start of Midnight Sun Farm will offer a presentation of organic pest control
• John Emrich of Backyard Chicken Run will do a presentation on city chickens!
Mark your calendar for BIKE AND FITNESS DAY at the Market Sunday, August 12th. The festivities kick off with a COMMUNITY BICYCLE RIDE. I’ll lead a bike tour of the 49th Ward, starting at my Ward Service Office and concluding at the Glenwood Sunday Market.
Join us Sunday, August 12th, 7:30 a.m., at my Ward Service Office, 7356 N. Greenview (at Jarvis) for some breakfast snacks and registration. We’ll push off promptly at 8:00 a.m. and enjoy a scenic tour of our neighborhood.
We’ll conclude our ride at BIKE AND FITNESS DAY at the Market where local businesses and organizations will provide bike parking, safety checks, helmet fittings, cycling merchandise, fitness specialists, safety tips and more!
See you at the Market!
