We often hear a lot of rhetoric in our community about support for our local schools. Here are two upcoming events where we can put those words into action–the Kilmer Elementary School Circus and the Sullivan High School 5K DREAM Run.
The Kilmer Circus is coming to town!
Step right up, the Kilmer Circus is coming to town! Join Kilmer Elementary School students, parents and your neighbors at the third annual Kilmer School Circus, this Thursday, May 11th, 6:00 p.m., at the Sullivan High School gym, 6631 N. Bosworth.
Prepare to be dazzled and amazed as you witness 6th, 7th, and 8th graders transform themselves into jugglers, tightrope walkers, acrobats, and more!
Kilmer Elementary School, located next door to Sullivan at 6700 N. Glenwood, launched its circus arts after-school program three years ago, and has been enthralling audiences ever since. All aspects of the program–from set design, to the costumes, to the choreography–are developed by Kilmer middle school students, with assistance from Assistant Principal Jennifer Foss and teachers Angela Norcik and Jason Feriend.
This free event is open to the public and guaranteed to please. Please make every effort to attend and support Kilmer and its students.
Support our Sullivan High School DREAMers at the 5K DREAM Run
Register for Sullivan High School’s 3rd annual 5K DREAM Run and support a scholarship fund for talented, undocumented seniors. The run takes place this Saturday, May 13th, 9:00 a.m., at Sullivan High School, 6631 N. Glenwood.
This race is organized entirely by Sullivan’s DREAMers Club students. All proceeds from this race will go towards Sullivan’s DREAMers Club Scholarship Fund, a scholarship fund for Sullivan’s undocumented seniors trying to pay for college.
Sullivan is one of the most diverse high schools in Chicago. With over 90% of students qualifying for free lunch, paying for college is a nearly impossible-to-overcome burden for undocumented students who cannot qualify for government-funded student aid.
This race is meant to be lighthearted and fun! It is not timed, but your pride is still on the line! Please join your neighbors for this great event and stay for the post-race party where you will enjoy refreshments and hear music from Sullivan’s rock band.
