In an effort to help struggling families to keep their homes, Governor Pat Quinn’s Mortgage Relief Projectwill hold a special Outreach Event this Saturday, December 11th, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Truman College Cafeteria, 1145 W. Wilson (just west of the Wilson Red Line stop).
Under the Homeowner Protection Act, which was signed into law by Governor Quinn, homeowners who have recently fallen behind on their mortgage payments can obtain a 90-day grace period by entering housing counseling. Property owners can exercise this right at the Mortgage Relief Project event, which offers property owners on-site assistance to lower their mortgage payments, avoid foreclosure and keep their homes.
The FREE workshop offers helpful advice about mortgage refinancing, foreclosure prevention, legal rights, credit counseling and avoiding scam artists. Homeowners obtain private, one-on-one housing counseling with HUD-certified counselors.
Bring your latest mortgage documents (bills, statements, notices, etc.), two most recent pay stubs, and your driver’s license or state ID. For a list of all the documents you would need to complete a full application for a loan modification, go to www.idfpr.com.
