I am pleased to report that work has begun on a complete resurfacing of Sheridan Road from the Evanston border south to Devon Avenue. The work will also include repairs to curbs and gutters and sewer and water mains where needed.
I first announced this project last April.
The project is estimated to cost $1.4 million and will be paid primarily by funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the federal stimulus plan). A portion of the cost will be covered by a statewide capital program recently signed into law by Governor Pat Quinn.
The project will be fully completed by the end of the construction season in November. While construction is underway, Sheridan Road will be cut to one lane in either direction, except during the morning rush hour when two southbound lanes will be open and the evening rush hour when two northbound lanes will be open.
In the interim, you may want to consider using either Clark Street or Ridge Boulevard as an alternate route. I know this will cause some major commuting headaches, but I’m sure you will agree with me that having a smooth and newly resurfaced Sheridan Road will be worth the temporary inconvenience.
