Save Money on Home Energy Costs and School Supplies

August 5, 2010

Dear Neighbor,

I’ve come across two great ways to stretch your dollars during these tough economic times:

REBATES ON INSULATION, WATER HEATERS, FURNACES, AND BOILERS

This hot, muggy summer is the perfect time to think about saving on your winter heating bills!

The Chicagoland Natural Gas Savings Program offers generous rebates on attic insulation and high-efficiency water heaters, furnaces and boilers.  The program is offered to residential customers, landlords and small businesses that are currently on Service Classification No. 1 (Residential) or No. 2 (General Service).

The program is available until October 31 or until funds are depleted, and features a simple, one-page application.  Your application must be postmarked within 60 days of the purchase date.

Attic insulation offers the best savings opportunity for many homeowners with rebates of 75% of the total cost up to $750.   And though the program requires you to use qualified contractors to install water heaters, furnaces and boilers, you can install the insulation yourself.

For more information, visit the Chicagoland Natural Gas Savings Program website:

SALES TAX HOLIDAY ON SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Save on back-to-school items this month.  Beginning this Friday, August 6th, and continuing for 10 days, through August 15th, the State of Illinois will waive its 5% sales tax fee for school supplies, clothing and footwear.  For Chicago shoppers, this means the overall sales tax on back-to-school items will drop from 9.75% to 4.75%.

For more information about the sales tax holiday, including a list of qualifying and non-qualifying items, please visit the Illinois Department of Revenue’s website:

http://tax.illinois.gov/SalesTaxHoliday.htm

I hope this information will save you a few dollars.

Sincerely,

Joe Moore
