If you are a motorist who drives through Chicago’s Edgewater community, just south of Rogers Park, please be aware that starting this Monday, July 11th, Ridge Ave., from Broadway to Clark will be CLOSED to automobile and truck traffic for the installation of a new water main to replace pipe that dates back to 1890. Hollywood from Broadway to Ridge will also be closed.
Northwest-bound lanes will be closed to all traffic during the construction. One southeast-bound lane will remain open for emergency vehicles, eastbound CTA buses and construction vehicles only. All westbound CTA buses from the Bryn Mawr Red Line station will be detoured south on Broadway to Foster, west on Foster to Ashland, north on Ashland to Peterson, then west on Peterson to their regular routes.
Though this construction is occurring in the Edgewater community in the 48th Ward, I know many 49th Ward motorists use Ridge Ave and other routes through Edgewater. If you planning to drive to or from Rogers Park through Edgewater, make sure you allow for extra time. Streets such as Devon, Broadway and Sheridan in Edgewater will experience heavier than normal traffic volume as a result of the Ridge Avenue closure.
I will let you know if any changes occur in the construction plans for timetable.
