Summer is fast approaching, and now is the time to reserve your block party.
Block parties are a great Chicago tradition. It’s a time when neighbors on a block close off the street for an afternoon, fire up the grills, play games with the kids, and just sit back and relax and get to know each other a little better.
My office will assist you in obtaining the necessary permits to close off the street on your block, but don’t wait until the last minute! We need at least 30 days to process your street closure application and notify all the pertinent city departments. Stop by my 49th Ward Service Office at 7356 N. Greenview (at Jarvis) to complete the application.
We can also assist you in obtaining some services to help make your party a success, including the ever-popular Jumping Jack. Known in other venues as the “Moon Walk,” this inflatable playground is a hit for kids of all ages. The Jumping Jack is scheduled on a first-come-first-served basis, and the dates fill up fast, so reserve your Jumping Jack as soon as possible!
You can also have the Chicago Police canine unit or a Chicago Fire Department Fire Engine stop by for a visit. Again, these services are scheduled on a first-come-first-served basis. Visit my office and we will submit a request on your behalf.
Finally, my staff assistants and I try to visit all the block parties with balloons for the kids. Let us know when would be the best time to stop by.
