This is a friendly reminder that I am hosing a meeting tonight to provide our community with an update on the timeline and logistics for the construction of an apartment building on the southeast corner of Morse and Wayne. The meeting will take place TONIGHT (Tuesday, February 21st), 7:00 p.m., at the Mayne Stage, 1328 W. Morse.
The eight-story apartment building on Morse just east of Wayne will be developed by Tawani Enterprises. I announced my support for the project in July, 2015, following a community review process, and the City Council approved the required zoning changes the following September.
This meeting comes at an exciting time for the Morse business district. Just yesterday, Tawani signed a deal with Empirical Brewery to open a brewery and restaurant across the street at the site of the former Act One Pub and the adjacent commercial space.
Empirical also owns a brewery and tap room on Foster Avenue in Edgewater. This would be Empirical’s first restaurant venture. They do not need any zoning relief and hope to open in late spring.
Though I’m sure members of Tawani’s team would be happy to respond to questions about the brew pub, the main purpose of the meeting is to provide a timetable and construction logistics for the apartment building development across the street.
The City issued building permits recently and Tawani is planning to break ground in March. They estimate the building will be ready for occupancy by summer, 2018.
If you are unable to attend the meeting but would like to receive updates on the construction process, please reply to this email.
