I am writing to remind you that Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin and I are hosting a fundraising benefit tonight to help cover some of the medical costs and living expenses of 49th Ward Committeeman David Fagus, who is struggling with a serious illness.
The barbecue benefit is TONIGHT (Tuesday, September 18th), 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Bruno and Tim’s Lounge, 6562 N. Sheridan. Parking is available one block south at The Morgan, 1209 W. Arthur, and the Granada Center, 6439 N. Sheridan.
Complimentary hot dogs, hamburgers, beer and soft drinks will be served. In return, we ask you to make as large a donation as you can to help David pay his medical bills.
As I reported last week, Committeeman Fagus is battling end-stage kidney disease. A transplanted kidney he received ten years ago failed last spring. Since then, he has suffered numerous medical complications that have led to lengthy hospital stays. He hasn’t been able to work since April and, as a result, lost his job and employer-covered medical insurance. He has exhausted his life savings and is relying on the limited financial resources of his small extended family.
You also may pay by check made payable to “David Fagus Benefit Fund.” Bring the check to the benefit tonight, or mail it to:

Please note: Your donation will be considered a gift to David to help cover the cost of his medical coverage and living expenses. It is not tax deductible, nor is it a political donation.
Feel free to forward this email to your friends and neighbors. You also may download a copy of the invitation to the benefit by clicking on the attachment below:
Thank you for your help and support of our friend, neighbor and community leader.
P.S. A special thanks to Bruno and Tim’s Lounge, Morse Fresh Market and the Rogers Park Fruit Marketfor their generous donations of food and beverages for tonight’s event.
