Dear Neighbor,
Congratulations to our 24th Police District Police Commander Bruce Rottner! Chicago’s new Police Superintendent, Jody Weis, has selected Commander Rottner, to be part of his new leadership team as the new Deputy Chief of Patrol for Area 3. Area 3 covers all the north side police districts, including the 24th District. Commander Rottner will assume his new assignment on Sunday.
Superintendent Weis has selected veteran Chicago Police Sergeant, Steve Caluris, to be the new 24th District Commander. Caluris has served in the 24th District in the past, and Commander Rottner assures me that Caluris is an excellent community-oriented police official who will continue Commander Rottner hands-on approach in his new role as 24th District Commander.
Commander Rottner has served on the Chicago Police Department for over 33 years, with the vast majority of his tenure in the 24th District. He has served as Police Commander for the last three years and oversaw a continued decrease in the crime rate in the 24th District, which includes the entire 49th Ward. Under Commander Rottner’s leadership, the 24th District last year ranked first in the city in percentage reduction in crime.
Superintendent Weis recognized Commander Rottner’s exemplary record in tapping him to be part of his leadership team. I have enjoyed working with Commander Rottner and will be sorry to see him go. We were extremely fortunate to have him as our district commander. But this is an exciting opportunity for Commander Rottner, and I look forward to working with him in his new role.
Congratulations to the new Deputy Chief!
Sincerely,
Joe Moore
