If you’re a dog owner, or simply a lover of animals, you won’t want to miss the official Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of the Paw-ttawattomie Dog Park, this Sunday, October 21st, 1:30 p.m., in Pottawattomie Park. The “dog friendly area” is nestled in the northeast corner of the park along the Metra tracks and behind the townhomes at 7403-27 N. Wolcott.
Below is a map, which highlights the precise location of the dog park (marked “DFA”):
The Paw-ttawattomie Dog Park was one of the first projects completed through my Participatory Budgeting process, in which the residents of the 49th Ward select by popular vote the projects funded with my $1 million capital budget. The dog park actually was completed in November 2011, but the cold weather prevented an official ribbon cutting.
The ribbon cutting at Paw-ttawattomie is the culmination of a day of activities for Rogers Park pet owners.
The Glenwood Sunday Market will be celebrating all things pet with its second annual Community Pet Day. Stop by the Market on Glenwood between Morse and Lunt and check out the vendors and providers who will be offering all the pet products and services you could possibly need. Vendors will include Bark Place,Rogers Bark and Chicago Pet Direct. Important information for pet owners from the City, State and County and animal rescue information also will be provided.
Festivities at the Market include “Dancing with Your Pet” at 10:30 a.m. and again at 12 noon (led by the Northside Dance Theater) and a “Pet Costume Contest” at 12:30 p.m.
At the conclusion of the festivities, join me for a Walk-a-thon from theGlenwood Sunday Market to the Paw-ttawattomie Dog Park. The Paw-ttawattomie Dog Park Committee encourages a voluntary $10 contribution to participate in the Walk-a-thon to help defray the costs of maintaining the dog park. Participatory Budgeting money paid to construct the park, but Park District rules require neighborhood volunteers to pay for its ongoing maintenance.
