As we head into the weekend, I’ve got two important notices. One involves getting around if you plan to use the Red Line this weekend. The other is about a fun event at Jarvis Square on Saturday.
Northbound Red Line to bypass all northbound stops from Wilson through Jarvis this weekend
Due to CTA crews performing work on the Wilson Station Reconstruction Project, northbound Red Line trains to Howard will bypass all stations from Wilson through Jarvis, including Loyola and Morse, this weekend. This will take place from 11:00 p.m. Friday, August 26th, until 2:00 a.m. Monday, August 29th.
The stations will remain open. But if you wish to travel to these stations from the south, take a Howard-bound (northbound) train to the end of the line at Howard and transfer to a 95th Street-bound (southbound) train.
If you wish to travel from these station to go north, take a 95th Street-bound (southbound) train to the Sheridan Road Red Line station (near Irving Park) and transfer to a Howard-bound (northbound) train.
Be sure to visit the CTA’s Red Line page for current and upcoming service alerts, or subscribe to planned weekend service changes from CTA Updates to have advance notice of work emailed to you.
Jarvis Square to Host “Rogers Pork” Festival this Saturday
Rogers Park is fast becoming known for its laid-back, community-oriented festivals. Don’t look now, but there’s another great festival coming up this Saturday afternoon—Rogers Pork.
The third annual festival will be held tomorrow (Saturday, August 27th), from 12:00 noon to 10:00 p.m. on the 1500 block of Jarvis (between Greenview and Ashland). This year, it is expanding to Ashland and will have two stages.
As its name indicates, Rogers Pork is a barbecue festival put on by some of the Jarvis Square businesses: R Public House, Taste Food and Wine, Charmers Café, and Poitin Stil. The festival will showcase five local bands and serve up Texas pulled pork and grilled chicken and North Carolina-style ribs. If you’re looking for something other than meat, The Amazing Kale Burger will be offering, yes, amazing kale burgers!
The festival is free, but a portion of the proceeds will go to Youth Empowerment Performance Project, an organization that works with LGBTQ youths.
The following music artists will perform on the fest’s stages:
EAST STAGE – Jarvis and Greenview
12:00 -1:00 p.m.: Straight Ethyl
1:30 – 2:15 p.m.: The Bliss Band
2:45 – 3:30 p.m.: Ellis Clark & The Big Parade

4:45 – 5:30 p.m.: Fumèe Gypsy Project
6:00 – 6:45 p.m.: Vivian Garcia

Enjoy the fest. But if you’re getting there via the CTA, but don’t forget about the Red Line bypassing all northbound stations from Wilson through Jarvis.
