New Schedule for 24th Police District CAPS Beat Meetings

May 18, 2011

Dear Neighbor,

Due to recent budget cuts, the 24th Police District has changed the days and times for most of the 24th District CAPS beat meetings.  The changes take place this month.  To view the new schedule, CLICK HERE or scroll down.

Since 1993, the Chicago Police Department has adopted a “community policing” approach to crime fighting in which the police and the public work together to exchange information, identify crime and disorder problems, and develop strategies to combat those problems.  Known in Chicago as the Comprehensive Community Policing Strategy (CAPS), the cornerstone of the initiative is the monthly “beat meeting” where residents and the police meet in each police “beat” to discuss issues and concerns and develop strategies to make for a safer neighborhood.

For a map that highlights the boundaries of the 24th Police District beats, CLICK HERE.

Note that each beat is numbered. The first two digits identify the district, the next digit is the sector number, and the last is the beat number. Therefore, 2431 is a beat in the 24th District, 3rd sector, and first beat.

The 49th Ward is entirely within the 24th District of the Chicago Police and for years, our beat meetings have been held on a monthly basis, usually at 7:00 p.m.  But due to recent budget cuts implemented by the Daley Administration, CAPS staffing has been reduced by two-thirds, and so the meeting dates have been compressed.  Below are the new days, times and locations for the next set of meetings for beats in the 49th Ward.  If you are not able to attend your own beat meeting due to the early start time, the CAPS office suggests you attend a later meeting in the same sector.

CAPS SCHEDULED MEETINGS

Third Thursday of the Month (this month, May 19)

2431 – 5:00 p.m. – Rogers Park Community Council, 1530 W. Morse
2432 – 6:00 p.m. – 24th District Police Station, 6464 N. Clark
2433 – 7:00 p.m. – Broadway Armory, 5917 N. Broadway

Fourth Thursday of the Month (this month, May 26)

2422 – 5:00 p.m. – Gateway Senior Building, 7450 N. Rogers
2423 – 6:00 p.m. – Trilogy, 1400 W. Greenleaf, 4th Floor
2424 – 7:00 p.m. – Pottawattomie Park Fieldhouse, 7340 N. Rogers

Note: A small portion of the 49th Ward (west of Ridge) is located in Sector 1, Beat 11.  Sector 1 meets on the second Thursday of the month.  The locations for the June meetings have not been determined.  For more information, call the 24th District CAPS office at 312-744-6321.

Depending on community response, the schedule may change in the coming months.  If that occurs, I will inform you of the changes.

Sincerely,

Joe Moore
