Please join Mayor Richard M. Daley and me as we cut the ribbon on the 49th Ward’s NEW FIREHOUSE! The celebration will take place this Saturday, January 10th, 10:00 a.m., at Engine Company 102, 7340 N. Clark (across from Touhy Park). Refreshments will be served and tours of the new facility will be provided. Bring your kids!
This 15,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility will replace the nearly 100-year-old firehouse, located at 1723 W. Greenleaf. The new facility contains a fitness center for the firefighters and a circular drive, which will enable the emergency vehicles to exit the facility quickly and efficiently.
Future plans for the old Greenleaf firehouse have not been formalized, but I have engaged in preliminary discussions with the Rogers Park Historical Society about that organization possibly acquiring the station for a museum and offices. I will keep you posted.
I look forward to seeing you at Saturday’s celebration!
