A 19-year-old Loyola University Chicago student who was shot in the lower back Friday night is recovering after surgery at St. Francis Hospital. I ask you to keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
The woman was walking in the 6700 block of N. Clark Street around 9:30 p.m. when she was injured by gunshots fired from a passing car. The police believe the shooting may have been gang-related, and that the shots were intended for another individual, not the victim. Police are examining surveillance videos from various cameras in the area. They are also testing the shell casings found at the site to determine if they can trace them to a certain weapon.

Commander Roberto Nieves of the 24th District said the department is saturating the area with both uniformed and plainclothes officers in the wake of the shooting.
Meanwhile, at about 6 p.m. on Saturday, a 23-year-old woman was shot in the alley behind 6930 N. Greenview. Police tell me the shooting is not related to the Clark Street shooting, nor is it gang-related. Instead, it appears to have been a domestic dispute, arising out of an argument over money that the offender believed the victim owed him. The alleged offender is in custody and the woman is in stable condition at St. Francis Hospital.
I will share with you any additional information I receive about either incident.
