Tragically, a Loyola University student from Pakistan was killed Friday evening in an attempted robbery at Albion and Lakewood.
The 23-year-old pre-med student, Matahir Rauf (right), was walking with his brother down the alley adjacent to the CTA Red Line retaining wall at approximately 8:00 p.m. when two men approached them with a gun and demanded their belongings. According to his brother, Matahir believed the weapon was a toy and reached for it. During the ensuing scuffle, the gun went off, killing young Matahir. The assailants fled the scene.
No suspects have been arrested. Both police and Loyola security have stepped up patrols in the immediate area.
