If you’re feeling anxious and alone because of recent events in our neighborhood , I have the perfect antidote for you. Join hundreds of your neighbors in a walk to support the work of an organization that literally has transformed the lives of youth and their families in Rogers Park–Family Matters.
The 29th Annual Family Matters Walkathon takes place tomorrow (Saturday, October 13th), 9:00 a.m., at the Gale Academy, 1631 W. Jonquil (at Ashland). This annual event builds community and raises funds and awareness for Family Matters, an organization that partners with youth and families in the North of Howard community to address and overcome structural racism and systemic oppression and build an equitable society.
Walkers will enjoy a 5-mile walk starting at Gale Academy and proceeding north into Evanston and back. All participants will receive a t-shirt, a light breakfast, and a picnic lunch upon return. This is a family-friendly event, and the picnic includes activities for kids.
Sign up for the walk here or simply show up at Gale Academy tomorrow.
For over 30 years, Family Matters has provided families with a safe space for their children after school, educational support and communication and leadership skill-building. Children and teens meet at Family Matters after school and during the summer and receive individualized goal-setting and academic support, as well as social and emotional learning experiences. Included are hands-on, applicable and fun learning experiences and one-on-one tutoring and mentoring.
If you can’t join the walk, but would like to support the good work of Family Matters, donate here.
Thanks for your support of a great organization!
