The Rogers Park Business Alliance and I are sponsoring a meeting to present and celebrate the work of the Special Service Areas (SSAs) in Rogers Park this past year. The SSA Annual Meeting takes place thisThursday, December 12th, 6:30 p.m., at Good to Go Jamaican Cuisine, 1947 W. Howard.
A Special Service Area is an economic development tool used along commercial districts across the City of Chicago that raises funds to deliver special services to the district. Funds are raised through a special property tax levy, administered by a local commission of property and business owners, and invested in activities, such as events, facade rebates, and marketing and promotion.
Rogers Park has three special service areas, all of which are managed by the Rogers Park Business Alliance. The SSAs include the Howard Street SSA #19, the Clark/Morse/Glenwood SSA #24 and the Sheridan Road SSA #54. Each SSA commission decides how to invest the funds. For example this year SSA funds were used to sponsor the Celebrate Clark Street Festival and the Glenwood Sunday Market, install two new murals as part of the Mile of Murals Project along Glenwood Ave, upgrade the lights on Sheridan Road and launch the Hello Howard campaign.
I hope you can attend this informative meeting. Please RSVP by Thursday, December 12th at 12 noon to Carolina Juarez at cjaurez@rogers-park or 773.508.5885.
