The 49th Ward Democratic Party and I are hosting a meeting next Monday evening, November 11th, to inform and assist you in taking advantage of the new Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare.” This new law will provide all Americans with affordable and quality care regardless of income or pre-existing conditions.
The forum will take place next Monday, November 11th, 6:30 p.m., at theLoyola Park Fieldhouse, 1230 W. Greenleaf (at the lake).
Julie Hamos, director of the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, will provide an overview of the Affordable Care Act, including the expansion of the Medicaid program. Patrick Corcoran, regional coordinator for Governor Pat Quinn’s Health Insurance Marketplace Outreach, will provide information on how to apply for coverage, including the Illinois Health Insurance Exchange, private insurance options, and subsidies to pay for private insurance.
Following the meeting, “Health Care Navigators,” experts trained in the new law, will be available to answer your personal questions and help you sign up for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act. To apply, please bring verification of income (pay stubs, income tax return) and a form of identification (e.g., driver’s license, state ID, Social Security card, student visa).
If you wish to take time to review all the information before signing up, the Health Care Navigators will available again on Saturday, November 23rd, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at my 49th Ward Service Office, 7356 N. Greenview (at Jarvis) and the 49th Ward Democratic Party office, 1774 W. Greenleaf (at Ravenswood).
