Here is the latest on the victims of the Jan. 11th apartment building fire at Estes and Paulina, which left seven families homeless.
As you may recall, all the residents of the building escaped the fire without injury. But the apartments of seven families were destroyed, leaving those families with just the clothes on their backs and a few items they could quickly grab as they escaped the flames.
To help the victims of this fire, Northside Community Resources (NCR) and I have partnered with the American Red Cross of Chicago, the Ethiopian Community Association of Chicago, RefugeeOne, and the Rogers Park Builders Group.
Over the last few week, the families have received donations of clothing, furniture and other household. And NCR has been working with local landlords and the Builders Group to help find them new homes in Rogers Park.
NCR also has been collecting donations to help families with moving expenses, security deposits, application fees and the first month’s rent.
In the true giving spirit of Rogers Park, over $15,000 has been collected so far. But the need remains great. If you haven’t donated, now is the time. If you’ve already given, please give again. You can donate any amount from now until the end of the day on Monday, Feb. 1st. After then, we will distribute your generous offerings to the families affected.
So please consider making a donation on the Northside Community Resources donation page before the close of business on Monday the 1st.
Thank you so very much!
