It’s another beautiful early fall day in Rogers Park and, as always, there’s plenty of fun activities taking place. Here’s a sampling of what’s occurring today, Saturday, September 26th:
I invite you to join me, the Chicago Park District and members of the 49th Ward Participatory Budgeting leadership team as we cut the ribbon on the new playground and mini-soccer field at Langdon Park! The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place TODAY (Saturday, September 26th),10:00 a.m. at Langdon Park, 1754 W. Albion (at Ravenswood).
CAPS Beat Facilitators and neighbors Pat Kenny and John Warner are generously providing some snacks and refreshments and the new Langdon Park Supervisor, Irma Rizzo, will offer kids free face painting. We’re also handing out some gift cards, compliments of Burger King.
The new mini-soccer field is designed for smaller children and was funded through my Participatory Budgeting process in which the residents of the 49th Ward vote on how to spend the ward’s $1 million annual capital improvement budget.
The new playground was selected through a community application process administered by Friends of the Parks, a park advocacy organization, dedicated to preserving, protecting, and improving Chicago’s parks. I announced the initiative in March of 2013 and urged neighbors to submit their favorite playground for consideration. In true Rogers Park fashion, the neighbors were enthusiastic and well-organized. As a result, every 49th Ward playground submitted for consideration was selected, including Langdon Park. The 49th Ward now has 10 brand new playgrounds to enjoy!
I hope you and your family can attend Saturday morning’s celebration!
Enjoy a beautiful day in the park and join the fall festivities at the Sixth Annual Rogers Park Harvest Fest TODAY (Saturday, September 26th), 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., at Willye White Park, 1610 W. Howard (at Ashland).
The Harvest Fest will feature plenty of fun, including FREE hayrides, a pumpkin patch, inflatable bouncy rides, treats and musical entertainment!
Sponsored by the Rogers Park Business Alliance, Howard Street Special Service Area (SSA) #19, the Chicago Park District and local businesses, Harvest Fest celebrates the changing of the seasons. Bring your entire family!
Join Sullivan High School’s parents, staff and friends for a fun night of hilarious comedy as they raise money for Sullivan High School’s cooking program.
The comedy show takes place TONIGHT (Saturday, September 26th), 9:00 p.m., at the Hard Water Bar and Grill, 7545 N. Clark (just south of Howard). The event features three amazing comedians who got their start right here in Chicago. Sydney Adeniyi will be hosting, Abi Sanchez will be opening, and Meechie Hall will be the headliner. This will be an unforgettable night eating, drinking and laughter.
Hard Water has teamed up with Rogers Park resident and special education professional, Andrea Graham, to teach autistic students the basics of safety, sanitation, cooking, and baking. The goal is to help these students become independent and able to prepare their own meals safely.
Tickets to the event range from $12 to $125. To order tickets, CLICK HERE.
Come out to hear some great comedy and support a great cause.
