Amazing! In the span of less than two days, we went from winter to summer temperatures in the 80s! The National Weather Service predicts it will cool down this Saturday to a perfect spring day with sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 50s.
I can’t think of a better way to spend a spring morning than to join your neighbors in beautifying the neighborhood!
This Saturday, May 5th, hundreds of 49th Ward residents will fan out across the neighborhood, picking up trash, cutting down weeds and planting flowers. We’ll meet at 9:00 a.m. for coffee and rolls at the 49th Ward Service Office, 7356 N. Greenview (at Jarvis) and head out into the neighborhood for some sprucing up.
We’ll return to the office at lunchtime for a fabulous “Taste of the 49th Ward,” featuring food from around the world donated by a vast array of 49th Ward restaurants and guaranteed to satisfy every culinary taste.
In an effort to make the event as sustainable as possible, this year’s Taste of the 49th Ward buffet will go zero-waste. We will provide reusable silverware and water bottle refill stations to reduce single-use items. Compost will be provided by Urban Canopy’s Compost Club, the same organization that my office uses to compost food scraps in our kitchen, and everything else will be completely recyclable.
Come by yourself or with a group! We’ll supply shovels, rakes, brooms and garbage bags.
This is a wonderful time for block clubs, condominium associations, church groups, and lots of other organizations to come together with individual members of the community to help get the ward ready for the spring and summer.
Bring the kids!
I hope to see you this Saturday morning at 9:00!
