I invite you to join me, the Chicago Park District and members of the 49th Ward Participatory Budgeting leadership team as we cut the ribbon on the new playground and mini-soccer field at Langdon Park! The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place thisSaturday, September 26th,10:00 a.m. at Langdon Park, 1754 W. Albion (at Ravenswood).
The new mini-soccer field is designed for smaller children and was funded through my Participatory Budgeting process in which the residents of the 49th Ward vote on how to spend the ward’s $1 million annual capital improvement budget.
The new playground was selected through a community application process administered by Friends of the Parks, a park advocacy organization, dedicated to preserving, protecting, and improving Chicago’s parks. I announced the initiative in March of 2013 and urged neighbors to submit their favorite playground for consideration. In true Rogers Park fashion, the neighbors were enthusiastic and well-organized. As a result, every 49th Ward playground submitted for consideration was selected, including Langdon Park. The 49th Ward now has 10 brand new playgrounds to enjoy!
I hope you and your family can attend Saturday morning’s celebration!
