Join me, your neighbors and representatives from Hampton Inn and Loyola University as we break ground on the new Rogers Park Hampton Inn. The groundbreaking ceremony takes place this Friday, October 9th, 11:00 a.m., at the southwest corner of Sheridan Road and Albion Avenue, where the new hotel will be built.
The new 145-room hotel will offer Rogers Park a much-needed amenity, as our neighborhood currently lacks a quality mid-priced hotel. A substantial majority of our neighborhood residents live in studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments, making it difficult for them to host out-of-town guests. The closest mid-priced hotels are located miles away in Evanston and Skokie.
The hotel project also will providenearly 10,000 square feet of ground level retail space, which will be controlled by Loyola University. The University is already engaged in discussions with several potential retailers.
Finally, the hotel developer has pledged to give neighborhood residents priority when hiring staff for the new hotel. I will provide more details on the hiring next spring when the hotel begins to make its hiring decisions.
Construction of the hotel is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year.
For specific details on the project, CLICK HERE to read the email I sent earlier this year setting forth my reasons for supporting the development.
Some minor changes have been made to the hotel’s facade since it was first presented to the community. A brick facade was substituted for the metal panels that originally were proposed for the northeast corner of the building. The panels instead were moved to the Albion side of the building. The City of Chicago Zoning Administrator also recently allowed the developer to substitute the traditional metal panels with more durable Nichiha panels.
Otherwise, the hotel’s design and size remain identical to that which was presented to the community earlier this year.
I look forward to seeing you as we celebrate this important milestone on Sheridan Road!
