Rogers Park is fast becoming known for its laid-back, community-oriented festivals. Don’t look now, but there’s another great festival coming up this Saturday afternoon—Rogers Pork.
As its name indicates, Rogers Pork is a barbecue festival put on by some of the Jarvis Square businesses-R Public House, Taste Food and Wine, Towbar and Poitin Stil. The festival will showcase five local bands and serve up Texas pulled pork and grilled chicken and North Carolina-style ribs. If you’re looking for something other than meat, The Amazing Kale Burger will be offering amazing kale burgers.
The festival is free, but organizers will be collecting schools supplies for Gale Academy and Kilmer Elementary School. And for every beer or cider sold, Chicago Beverage Systems will donate 15 cents to Youth Empowerment Performance Project, an organization that works with LGBTQ youths.
The following music artists will perform on the fest’s stage:
12-12:45 p.m.: Blue Shag (with 49th Ward Service Office staffer Michael Land on drums)
1-2 p.m.: Straight Ethyl
2:30-3:30 p.m.: Amy Kelly and the Bill Ande Band
4-5 p.m.: The John Ballantyne Group
5:30-6:30 p.m.: Amazing Heeby Jeebies
7-8 p.m.: DJ Psycho B—-
Stop by Jarvis Square on Saturday and enjoy what makes our neighborhood such a special place.
