I’m pleased to report the rehabilitation of the Jarvis “L” stationhouse and platform is on schedule and the Jarvis “L” station will reopen this Thursday, December 13th at 10 p.m. This means the station will be open for this Friday’s morning rush hour commute.
To mark the occasion, I will host a 49th Ward “Satellite Service Office” at theentrance to the Jarvis station this Friday, December 14th from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. My staff and I will be offering complimentary coffee and donuts and taking city service requests.
I also will be hosting a “Follow Me on Friday” event this Friday December 14th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Taste Food & Wine, 1506 W. Jarvis, in the Jarvis Square business district. The businesses surrounding the Jarvis “L” station took a real hit during the station shutdown and I want everyone to know Jarvis Square is open for business.
Taste Food & Wine will be offering a complimentary wine tasting and some light appetizers. I’ll send out more information tomorrow about the Follow Me on Friday event.
The project work at the Jarvis station included viaduct repairs, platform replacement, station water proofing, lighting improvements and new station house finishes, such as floors, doors, windows and lighting. These improvements will increase the safety and comfort of CTA passengers, while enhancing the appearance of the station and surrounding structures.
The project is intended to extend the life of the Jarvis station until implementation of the Red and Purple Line Modernization Project, which calls for massive rebuilding of the entire Red Line north of Belmont. The Modernization Project is currently in the early stages of planning and will require several more years of planning and identified sources of funding.
Rehabilitation work on the Loyola “L” station is continuing with a scheduled spring completion. The Loyola station will not be closed, as the work is centered more on the exterior of the station and the viaducts. I will continue to keep you apprised on the progress of the Loyola work.
In the meantime, I hope to see you this Friday on Jarvis!
