Have you ever heard the old saying, “One person’s trash is another person’s treasure”? We’re going to again take that adage to a new level on the weekend of May 14th and 15th when my 49th Ward Green Corps, the Rogers Park Business Alliance, and the Howard Street Special Service Area sponsor another “TRASH TO TREASURE SWAP.”
The Swap will be held again on Howard Street. Stay tuned for the precise location. On Saturday, May 14th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., drop off things you no longer want or need, but are still usable for others. Come back on Sunday, May 15th, to take home a treasure or two.
Those who drop off items on Saturday get a ticket to the “Preview Pick-Up” for first dibs on others’ unwanted stuff. The Preview Pick-Up will take place on Sunday, May 15th from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. Certified school teachers are also welcome during this preview period to obtain classroom items. After the Preview Pick-Up,the doors will open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., to anyone else who wishes to avail themselves of the remaining hidden treasures.
I want to offer a very special thank you to Autumn Franger, a 49th Ward Green Corps volunteer who has organized these swaps and diverted truckloads of usable goods from our landfills. Autumn truly embodies the spirit of the 49th Ward Green Corps, in which one person, with the support of other volunteers and the resources of my 49th Ward Service Office, can make a tremendous impact on greening our community. Many thanks to the Rogers Park Business Alliance and the Howard Street SSA for partnering with us this year.
Below are some examples of items you might want to swap:
