I am writing to invite you to attend an informational meeting about a new health center that will be constructed on the site of the old Weinstein Funeral Home, 1300 W. Devon (at Lakewood). The meeting will be held this Monday, July 29th, 7:00 p.m. at the Caroline Hedger Senior Apartments, 6400 N Sheridan (at Devon).
Gwenn Rausch, CEO of Heartland Health Centers, and her development team will present their plans to develop a one story, 9,200 square-foot health clinic on the lot occupied by the former funeral home, which will be demolished (see photo on right, courtesy of DNAinfo/Benjamin Woodard). Current zoning allows for the construction of the health center and the meeting is informational only.

Heartland Health Centers, an independent affiliate of the Heartland Alliance, is a non-profit with a mission of improving communities by providing accessible high quality healthcare. The organization recently received a $3 million Illinois Capital Development grant to build the new facility. It will be located in an area designated as underserved by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. As such, it qualifies as a site for healthcare providers to receive loan forgiveness which will aid in attracting nurses and doctors to work at the location.
The center will employ approximately 20 doctors, nurses and support staff. The building is designed by local architects Manske, Deickman & Thompson and construction is scheduled to begin in September.
