** UPDATE ** Thank you for your enthusiasm, all the seeds have gone to good homes!
My 49th Ward Service Office is giving away free packets of wildflower seeds to anyone who promises to plant them. My office is located at 7356 N. Greenview (at Jarvis).
We have extended our hours this week and next for voting in the 49th Ward Participatory Budgeting election, so stop by anytime Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. pick up your package of seeds and vote in the election.
The seeds were given to us courtesy of TruGreen Lawncare. Supplies are limited so stop by as soon as you can.
Why are we giving away free wildflower seeds? Because wildflowers are good for the environment. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds each play an important role in regulating agriculture.
By pollinating many of our gardens, they are providing us with a nutritious diet. Lack of different food sources are preventing bees from being healthy. This means they need our help to sustain their population.
Increasing food and foraging areas for bees and other pollinators is a key to the goal of restoring honey bee colonies to sustainable levels, increasing Eastern monarch butterfly populations and restoring needed acres of land for pollinators.
Please do your part to help support bee health.
My thanks to TruGreen Lawncare for making the wildflowers available to Rogers Park residents.
