We’ll meet at Uncommon Ground, 1401 W. Devon (at Glenwood), for coffee and rolls and then fan out along Devon. This volunteer effort will include, cleaning, weeding and painting the street from Broadway Avenue to Clark Street.
As you may know, a recent re-mapping of ward boundaries extends the 49th Ward’s southern boundary to Devon between Broadway and Greenview. I’m eager to get to work on Devon Avenue and build on the progress made by Ald. O’Connor, who represented both sides of Devon for the last 20 years.
Just recently, I was pleased to announce the construction of a new state-of-the-art health care center at 1300 W. Devon on the 49th Ward side of Devon at the site of the former Weinstein funeral home. Demolition of the funeral home is scheduled to take place any day now with construction of the health care center to commence shortly thereafter.
And across the street in the 48th Ward, Starbucks just started construction of the company’s first “modern modular” store in Chicago, and it’s sixth in the U.S., at the southwest corner of Devon and Broadway.
I look forward to announcing some more exciting news about developments along Devon Avenue in the months ahead.
In the meantime, join your neighbors for a much-needed sprucing up of Devon Avenue this Saturday at 10 a.m.
