I’m pleased to report the Glenwood Sunday Market was voted the favorite farmers’ market in Illinois by the American Farmland Trust. The Glenwood Sunday Market blew away the competition in our state, including the largest and most established farmers’ markets in Illinois. For a copy of the results in Illinois, CLICK HERE.
Unfortunately, we came up a little short in the national competition. The Glenwood Sunday Market placed third in its category–“Boutique Markets”–owning to a last minute surge in votes received by the King George Farmers’ Market in King George, Virginia. Still a third place showing in the national competition provides pretty impressive bragging rights. My thanks to all the organizers and volunteers who have made the market such a smashing success in its first year.
Even though the upcoming weekend is a holiday weekend, the Glenwood Sunday Market will be in full swing with all its usual vendors. Keep in mind that the Market is at its new and permanent location. It’s still on Glenwood, but now it’s north of Morse between Morse and Lunt.
When you stop by the Market, enjoy plus a return visit by one of the Market’s most popular vendors–Knife Sharpening By Dave!
Dave sharpens anything from knives, bread knives (large scallop), meat cleavers, scissors (utility and sewing), pinking shears (zigzag or scallop) to lawn mower blades, pruning shears, and hedge loppers. Prices start at only $4.00! Dave takes orders on a first come first serve basis and his time fills up quickly. Safety Tip: To safely bring your items to the market, Dave recommends wrapping them in a terry cloth towel and transporting them in a cardboard box or sturdy bag.
I hope to see you at the Glenwood Sunday Market . . . Your Green Stop on the Red Line!
I also hope to see you this Friday, September 3rd, 4:00-7:00 p.m., as we close out the summer with my Follow Me on Fridays location at the Waterfront Cafe, 6219 N. Sheridan, on the shore of beautiful Lake Michigan in Berger Park (northeast corner of Sheridan and Rosemont). Please note we’re starting the Follow Me on Fridays an hour earlier this week, so folks can get an early start on the holiday weekend!
“Follow Me on Friday” is one of my efforts to encourage you to sample some of the 49th Ward’s finest restaurants and pubs. Each week on my Facebook page, I will post the name and location of a local restaurant or pub where I’ll be hanging out after work on Friday. The establishment will offer specials for all my Facebook followers and their friends. It’s a great opportunity for you to check out a local business you may not have been to before.
Previous “Follow Me on Friday” locations include Mullen’s Bar and Grill at 7301 N. Western, RoPa Restaurant and Wine Bar at 1146 W. Pratt, the Act One Cafe, 1330 W. Morse, and the Ethiopian Diamond II, 7537 N. Clark.
Join me on Facebook, http://www.facebook.com/joemoore49, or bring this e-mail, and you’ll get your choice of a complimentary Sangria or soft drink. The Waterfront Cafe will also provide free appetizers.
Have a great Labor Day weekend!
