Summer is finally here and so is the Glenwood Sunday Market . . . Your Green Stop on the Red Line!
The Glenwood Sunday Market will kick off its fifth season with an OPENING CEREMONY this Sunday, June 1st, 8:45 a.m., in the middle of the Market on southbound Glenwood alongside the CTA tracks between Morse and Lunt. I’ll ring the ceremonial opening bell, which will be followed by a lively performance of the Lakeside Pride Music Ensemble’s Brass Quintet. Shopping will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m.
The Market supports and encourages organic and sustainable growing practices by bringing local farmers to the 49th Ward. All the food farmers participating in the Glenwood Sunday Market are located within 200 miles of the 49th Ward and use organic farming practices. The principle of “know your farmer, know your food,” is the watchword of the Glenwood Sunday Market, which is striving to be the greenest market in Chicago.
The Market runs every Sunday, rain or shine, from June 1st through October 26th, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Locally grown fresh produce, baked goods, and packaged foods will be featured, as well as weekly entertainment, educational programs, and fun activities for everyone. The Market is conveniently located just steps from the Morse Avenue stop on the CTA’s Red Line.
The Market’s theme this year is “food brings us together”. All season, the Market will be offering opportunities to experience the many ways food brings our community together.
The Market is accessible to everyone in our economically and culturally diverse community. VISA, MasterCard, Link and SNAP transactions will be accepted. The Glenwood Sunday Market receives a grant from LINK Up Illinois, which makes fresh food accessible and affordable to those using LINK cards at farmers’ markets by doubling the value of their federal food stamps. This enables the Glenwood Sunday Market to triple the number of SNAP/LINK shoppers who can receive this benefit at the Market.
The Market has truly become the “town square” of Rogers Park on Sunday mornings–a great place to find the very best locally, organically grown produce and specialty foods, say hello to friends and neighbors, meet and greet great farmers and local food artisans.
