I am writing to alert you to some extensive parking and traffic restrictions on Touhy Avenue and Ashland Boulevard next Wednesday, April 8th. The parking and traffic restrictions are taking place to accommodate the funeral of His Holiness Khanania Dinkha IV, the Patriarch of the Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East.
The funeral will be held at St. George Cathedral, 7201 N. Ashland(at Touhy).
Parking and traffic will be prohibited on Touhy, from Sheridan to Clark, and Ashland, from Estes to Chase, beginning at 12 midnight, Wednesday, April 8th, until Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Vehicles and pedestrians will be prohibited from crossing through the parking restricted area.
I have been advised by the police that automobiles parked in the restricted area during the times outlined above will be ticketed and towed to the nearest City auto pound at 701 N. Sacramento. To confirm whether your car got towed, call 773-265-7605.
His Holiness was the spiritual leader of the Church of the East for 39 years. Nearly 100,000 Assyrians live in the U.S., including over 10,000 in the Chicago area. Police and church officials do not know how many of the faithful will attend His Holiness’s funeral, but attendance could exceed several thousand.
St. George’s Church can only accommodate several hundred people. Officials expect those not able to enter the church will stand outside to view the funeral procession entering and leaving the church.
