FREE Flu Shots, Paper Shredding and Obamacare Enrollment this Saturday

November 4, 2013

Dear Neighbor,

This Saturday, November 9th, my office is offering you an opportunity to protect your health and safeguard your privacy all in one stop.

My office once again is offering FREE flu shots and paper shredding. We are also providing you with an opportunity to receive health care coverage under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare.”

It all takes place this Saturday, November 9th, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at my 49th Ward Service Office, 7356 N. Greenview (at Jarvis).

GET A FREE FLU SHOT

Now that the flu season is fast approaching, we need to turn our attention to protecting our health.  I’m offering FREE flu vaccinations this Saturday, November 9th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (while supplies last), at my Ward Service Office.  The vaccinations will be administered by the City of Chicago Department of Public Health.  If you have a Medicare card, please bring it with you.

Influenza, also known as “the flu,” is a very contagious lung disease that causes an average of over 200,000 hospitalizations and 36,000 deaths in the United States each year. Anyone can get the flu.  For most people, the flu can cause fever, cough, sore throat, headache, chills, muscle aches, and fatigue.

Flu infections among the elderly and those with chronic heart or lung disease can lead to more serious complications, including hospitalization and even death.

Here’s who should especially consider receiving a flu shot:

  • Adults over 50 years old
  • Anyone with a chronic health condition
  • Pregnant women
  • Healthcare workers
  • Caregivers for young children or the elderly

• Residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities

Even you do not fall within one of the above categories, you should still think seriously about protecting yourself from the flu this winter.

SHRED AND RECYCLE YOUR OLD PAPERS AND DOCUMENTS

During the administration of the flu shots, a mobile shredding truck sponsored by Midway Document Destruction’s Mobile Shredding Truck will be parked in the lot outside my office, providing free paper shredding and recycling to residents of the 49th Ward.

Stop by my office at 7356 N. Greenview (at Jarvis) on Saturday, October 20th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and get rid of any old or unwanted papers. Because the documents are shredded, you won’t have to worry about anyone being able to read your private information.  Just bring your old documents to the truck, where they will be shredded on the spot in front of you and then taken away to be recycled.

Bring any documents you no longer need or want but that might contain personal or private information. Examples include:

  • Bank Statements
  • Outdated medical records
  • Pay stubs
  • Old bills and receipts
  • Credit card offers

• Tax returns older than seven years

ENROLL IN OBAMACARE

I will have experts in my office this Saturday to help you enroll in Obamacare, the new health law that will provide all Americans with affordable and quality care regardless of income or pre-existing conditions. Stop by my office at 7356 N. Greenview this Saturday, November 9th, any time between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to enroll and get your questions answered.
