Please join me this Friday, October 26th for Follow Me on “Fright Day.” It’s my traditional “Follow Me on Friday” with a Halloween twist, as I support the work of PB49, the 49th Ward’s Participatory Budgeting Initiative. It all takes place this Friday, October 26th, 5:00 to 7:30 p.m., at The Glenwood, 6962 N. Glenwood (between Morse and Lunt).
Come out to preview your Halloween finery–don your costume (or not) and join us at The Glenwood for Halloween treats including food and fun. A $10 donation at the door helps support Participatory Budgeting outreach efforts in the 49th Ward (greater amounts will be gratefully accepted). If you’re shy (or don’t want to hassle with a costume), we’ll provide you with a minimalist costume.
Sponsored by the 49th Ward Participatory Boodget and Finance Committee, proceeds from this event will be used to increase community outreach and participation in our upcoming Participatory Budgeting process where 49th Ward residents will vote on how to spend my $1 million 2013 ward infrastructure budget. Thousands of residents have voted in the last three elections and we want to get even more people involved this coming year from every part of our diverse community.
Other than some limited funds, which I donate from my aldermanic expense allowance, the City does not fund our participatory budgeting process. The cost of printing the flyers, ballots and notices to run the election and get the word out must be covered with private donations.
The funds raised from the event will be maintained by the Participatory Budgeting Fiscal Manager, theRogers Park Business Alliance and monitored by the PB49 Leadership Committee.

Please feel free to post the flier in your apartment building vestibule or at your local house of worship, club or social organization.
“Follow Me on Friday” is one of my efforts to encourage my constituents to sample some of the 49th Ward’s finest restaurants, pubs and businesses. Each week on my Facebook page, I post the name and location of a local restaurant, pub or business where I’ll be hanging out after work on Friday. The establishment offers specials for all my Facebook followers and their friends. It’s a great opportunity for you to check out one of the fine local 49th Ward businesses you may not have visited before.
