Please join me for a Follow Me on Friday and a very special cause as I support the 49th Ward Participatory Budgeting Initiative with a “Fun Raiser,” It all takes place this Friday, October 28th, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Mayne Stage, 1328 W. Morse.
A complimentary drink and appetizers will be provided courtesy of the Act One Pub. We’re asking for a minimum donation of $10 to attend the Fun Raiser (although donations in greater amounts will be gratefully accepted).
Sponsored by the 49th Ward Participatory Budgeting (PB49) Leadership Committee, proceeds from this event will be used to increase community outreach and participation in our upcoming Participatory Budgeting process where 49th Ward residents will vote on how to spend my $1 million 2012 ward infrastructure budget. Thousands of residents have voted in the last two elections and we want to get even more people involved this coming year from every sector of our diverse community.
Come sip the new PB49 drink, featured at the Mayne Stage from now until the end of November. One dollar from the sale of each PB49 drink will go to underwrite the cost of our outreach.
Other than some limited funds, which I am able to donate from my aldermanic expense allowance, the City does not fund our participatory budgeting process, so the money raised to print the flyers, ballots and notices used to fund the election and get the word out about the great projects on the ballot must come from private donations.
The funds raised form the event and the sale of the PB49 drink will be maintained by the Participatory Budgeting Fiscal Manager, the Rogers Park Business Alliance and monitored by the PB49 Leadership Committee.

Please feel free to post the flier in your apartment building vestibule or at your local house of worship, club or social organization.
(Also, don’t forget Thursday’s Participatory Budgeting Neighborhood Assembly Meeting for 49th Ward residents who live south of Touhy and west of Clark. The meeting takes place at New Field School, 1707 W. Morse (at Clark). Pizza and refreshments courtesy of JB Alberto’s Pizza will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will start at 7:00 p.m.)
“Follow Me on Friday” is one of my efforts to encourage my constituents to sample some of the 49th Ward’s finest restaurants, pubs and businesses. Each week on my Facebook page, I post the name and location of a local restaurant, pub or business where I’ll be hanging out after work on Friday. The establishment offers specials for all my Facebook followers and their friends. It’s a great opportunity for you to check out one of the fine local 49th Ward businesses you may not have visited before.
