Follow Me on Friday to the Lighthouse Tavern

May 17, 2012

Dear Neighbor,

Join me for my next “Follow Me on Friday” as I visit what is likely the most neighborly of neighborhood bars–the Lighthouse Tavern, 1236 W. Chase (between Sheridan and the Lake).  The fun takes place this Friday, May 18th, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Owner Joe Quinlan will be serving up free appetizers and a complimentary beer, wine or soft drink.

When Joe took ownership of the Lighthouse a year ago, he upgraded the decor and tap beer selection, but he didn’t take away any of the tavern’s neighborhood feel.  It’s still a place where the vast majority of customers are regulars who live within walking distance of the establishment.  But not to worry–newcomers are welcome.  You’ll be greeted by a friendly bartender who won’t forget your drink order and you’ll have easy access to one of the best juke boxes in town.

But the best thing about the bar is that it’s hidden away.  In fact, many long-term Rogers Park residents don’t even know it’s there.  No large backlit sign over the entrance or neon beer signs in the window; just a small unpretentious sign next to the front door.

In case you have trouble finding the Lighthouse, it’s tucked in the back of the large apartment building at the northeast corner of Sheridan and Chase.

Join me for a pleasant spring evening at this most neighborly of neighborhood bars.

FacebookFollow Me on Friday is one of my efforts to encourage my constituents to sample some of the 49th Ward’s finest restaurants, pubs and community organizations.  Each week on my Facebook page, I post the name and location of a local restaurant, pub or organization where I’ll be hanging out after work on Friday.  The establishment offers specials for all my Facebook followers and their friends. It’s a great opportunity for you to check out one of the fine local 49th Ward businesses you may not haveTwitter visited before.
