Follow Me on Friday to the brand new home of The Factory Theater. This exciting event takes place this Friday, April 15th, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the lobby of the theater at 1623 W. Howard (just east of the CTA Red Line). Enjoy some complimentary hors d’oeuvres from the new Little Unicoco restaurant, which just opened its doors a few steps to the west of the theater (and is a likely venue for a future Follow Me on Friday!) Beer, wine and soft drinks will also be served.
Meet the cast and crew from their latest production, The Last Big Mistake.
After the “Follow Me” event, I urge you to stay and enjoy the play, which starts at 8:00 p.m. The Factory is offering a 20% discount on tickets for that evening’s performance to everyone who attends the Follow Me on Friday event. You also can order tickets online and get the discount by entering the code “follow”. Tickets are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, as the theater has 72 seats.
While I have not seen the play yet, members of my staff say that this rough and tumble comedy is a lot of fun, and a great start to The Factory Theater’s residency on Howard Street.
The theater offers original works written and produced by members of its ensemble. It announced plans last year to move to Howard Street from its location in Avondale. My office played a key role in facilitating the Factory Theater’s move to Rogers Park. After learning that Factory was looking for new space, my staff and I introduced the theater company to the owner of the Howard Theater Building, Jay Johnson.
Celebrated architect Thomas Hickery, who remodeled the Victory Gardens Theater and the Body Politic Theater, designed the space to accommodate a 72-seat thrust theater. The space promises to be a lively location for theatrical performances throughout the entire year, even when The Factory Theater is in between productions. The company plans to rent the space to other theater companies for rehearsal and performances when they are not using the space.
Factory’s move to Howard Street represents a homecoming for the theater company. The company performed in Rogers Park from 1992 to 1999 in a space on Loyola Avenue.
As their current production is set in the 1970s, I have to borrow a phrase from a popular sitcom of the day and say, “Welcome Back.” Please come and show your support for our newest addition to our thriving arts scene.
“Follow Me on Friday” is one of my efforts to encourage my constituents to sample some of the 49th Ward’s finest restaurants, pubs and businesses. About once or twice a month on my Facebook page, I post the name and location of a local restaurant, pub or business where I’ll be hanging out after work on Friday. The establishment offers specials for all my Facebook followers and their friends. It’s a great opportunity for you to check out one of the fine local 49th Ward businesses you may not have visited before.
