The 11th Annual Celebrate Clark Street World Music Festival is this weekend, and I’m coming to Clark Street a day early for an unofficial kick-off of the festivities.
Follow Me on Friday to the A&T Pancake House and Grill, 7036 N. Clark (at Greenleaf), this Friday, July 15th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Enjoy some of A&T’s club sandwiches, mini chicken kebobs, challah French toast triangles, and petits fours while my staff serves up complimentary beer, wine and soft drinks.
The Clark Street Festival, which features music from around the world, is a celebration of Rogers Park’s rich immigrant culture. Clark Street is the epicenter of that culture. Nearly every business on Clark Street in Rogers Park was founded and operated by immigrants, who came to our country in search of a better life for their families.
The A&T Pancake House and Grill is the embodiment of the American Dream. Greek immigrants Pete and Mary Fronimos opened the A&T on Clark Street over 50 years ago. Three years ago, Pete and Mary sold their business to Martimano “Martin” Solorzano-Arroyo, a Mexican immigrant, who started at the A&T in 1998 as a dishwasher and worked his way up to become the restaurant’s chief cook.
The letters A and T stand for abundant and tasty and the offerings at this Clark Street diner are just that. The portions are huge–the pancakes alone take up your entire plate–and the food is delicious with only the highest quality fresh ingredients.
The A&T offers all the traditional items you would expect from an American diner, including eggs, toast, bacon, sausage and coffee. Beyond the traditional, the A&T offers unexpected items, such as organic eggs, challah French toast (amazing), and an extensive menu of other items such as hamburgers, sandwiches, dinner entrees and a full dessert menu.
The A&T is one of the few quality places you can take your family without breaking the bank. A full breakfast of eggs, pancakes, toast, bacon and coffee is only $8.50 a person with tax! And if you have kids, it’s even more affordable. Kids aged ten years old and younger can eat for $1.99 after 3:00 p.m.!
“Follow Me on Friday” is one of my efforts to encourage my constituents to sample some of the 49th Ward’s finest restaurants, pubs and businesses. About once or twice a month on my Facebook page, I post the name and location of a local restaurant, pub or business where I’ll be hanging out after work on Friday. The establishment offers specials for all my Facebook followers and their friends. It’s a great opportunity for you to check out one of the fine local 49th Ward businesses you may not have visited before.
