Join me for Safari’s official ribbon cutting and enjoy African and Caribbean music while sipping your complimentary drink and tasting some of Safari’s delicious offerings. The fun takes place this Friday, June 10th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Safari Lounge & Ethiopian Cuisine is Chicago’s most exotic lounge and event space. The 5,000-square-foot dining and entertainment space offers a unique experience: a ground level restaurant and lounge with a full menu and bar, including Chicago’s largest selection of African beers, and a unique upstairs “Safari Room” event space with a full menu and bar and two stages for live music or a DJ.
After years of success with his Demera Restaurant, a Michelin-recommended restaurant in Uptown, co-owners Girmai Lemma and Tigist Reda, decided to venture north to Rogers Park. “We are committed to offering a memorable dining experience for everyone, highlighted by our fusion menu of ‘Ethiopia-meets-Caribbean’ dishes, backed by African, Reggae and local pop music,” says Girmai. “Our restaurant is a dream come true,” he adds.
The restaurant’s interior was designed by noted interior designer Michael Arca. It has a feel that Salvador Dali would love, due to Arca’s use of vivid color, texture and detail. “We look forward to sharing with our customers our vision of an environment of distinctive artistic style,” says Michael.
Safari Lounge’s tagline, “Into the Wild,” reflects its overall decor, with crocodile-textured seating and animal print accents throughout. Walls of recycled wood and eclectic art, and a bar that customers are already calling the “long red bar,” add to a signature dining and entertainment experience.
Tigist, who also is Safari’s chef, created a menu inspired by the best of Ethiopian cuisine. Many of her dishes are laced with the Ethiopian spices of berbere and mitmita. Her chicken wings, glazed in a house-made hot sauce, have become customer favorites, even before the restaurant’s official opening. The bar offers cocktails infused with ingredients found in both Africa and the Caribbean, along with classic American cocktails.
Girmai and Tigist will offer tours of their new restaurant throughout the evening. Help me welcome them to Rogers Park!
“Follow Me on Friday” is one of my efforts to encourage my constituents to sample some of the 49th Ward’s finest restaurants, pubs and businesses. About once or twice a month on my Facebook page, I post the name and location of a local restaurant, pub or business where I’ll be hanging out after work on Friday. The establishment offers specials for all my Facebook followers and their friends. It’s a great opportunity for you to check out one of the fine local 49th Ward businesses you may not have visited before.
