The ninth annual Celebrate Clark Street World Music Festival is this weekend and I’m kicking it off with aFollow Me on Friday to Clark Street to celebrate the arrival of the newest business on Clark and enjoy food from one of the established Clark Street businesses.
Follow me first to the ribbon cutting and grand opening of Giving Tree Toys, 7020 N. Clark Street(between Lunt and Greenleaf). The ribbon cutting will take place this Friday, July 18th, at 5:00 p.m. Following the ribbon cutting, we’ll move one door north to La Choza Mexican Grill, 7022 N. Clark, to enjoy some tasty Mexican dishes and a liquid refreshment or two from 5:15 to 7:00 p.m.
Owned by Rogers Park native, Bridgett Scarborough, Giving Tree Toys is not your ordinary toy store. According to Bridget, “Giving Tree is not just selling toys, it’s selling an experience.” The store features a lounge area called “The Giving Room” where parents can read to their children and interact with the products. This space is also conducive to small events such as family activities, storytelling, parent workshops and teacher trainings.
Giving Tree Toys will sell classic toys and games that are rooted in fun and learning. Most of the toys are made from natural, environmentally friendly materials and are geared toward children from birth to the tween years.
Inspired by Shel Silverstein’s iconic book, The Giving Tree, Bridgett will bring her 20 years of experience in early childhood education to her new business, which she hopes will promote family engagement, early childhood development and learning.
After the ribbon cutting, join us next door for some delicious Mexican morsels at La Choza Mexican Grill. Owner Abel Ramirez (see photo on right) will serve up some of his house specialties. Abel gets especially rave reviews for his salsa and his Al Pastor taco dinner. If you like Mexican food, La Choza is definitely the place to dine.
To compliment your Mexican dining experience, I’ll serve up margaritas and Mexican beer. I’ll also offer a choice of wine and soft drinks if you prefer.
“Follow Me on Friday”is one of my efforts to encourage my constituents to sample some of the 49th Ward’s finest restaurants, pubs and businesses. Each week onmy Facebook page, I post the name and location of a local restaurant, pub or business where I’ll be hanging out after work on Friday. The establishment offers specials for all my Facebook followers and their friends. It’s a great opportunity for you to check out one of the fine local 49th Ward businesses you may not have visited before.
