The ever-popular Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest is this weekend and I’m journeying to Morse and Glenwood Avenues to help kick off the festivities!
Follow Me on Friday to Empirical Brew Pub, 1330 W. Morse, this Friday, August 18th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Enjoy some free samples of their delicious food offerings and wash them down with a complimentary beer (of course). For those who prefer something other than beer, Empirical will offer a complimentary glass of wine or soft drink.
Empirical Brew Pub opened to popular acclaim earlier this summer in the space formerly occupied by Act One Pub. It’s the culinary offspring of Empirical Brewery, an Edgewater brewery and tap room owned and operated by Bill Hurley and his partner, brewmaster Art Steinhoff (see photo on below).
Their Morse Avenue pub allows Bill and Art to explore the science of beer and food. They incorporate beer into many of their dishes and enjoy pairing their food offerings with particular beers. They also craft some awesome beer cocktails, such as their “beergarita,” a concoction that combines their popular Cold Fusion Cream Ale with tequila and house-made lime cordial.
Bill and Art plan to build a second brewing facility just next door (at 1336 W. Morse). This new production system will brew up beer just for the brew pub and give Rogers Park its own special beer. It will give their brewing team an opportunity to experiment with all-new recipes and collect your feedback along the way.
After enjoying some great food, drink and fellowship at Empirical, follow me down the block to Glenwood Avenue and the Friday Night Cobblestone Jam, the official launch for the Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest.
Marking its 16th year, the Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest is a free, weekend-long arts festival that features 100+ artists, open studios, and live entertainment on three outdoor stages. The Fest is centered at the intersection of Glenwood and Morse and expands one block in every direction. Experience art of all disciplines, music, theater, food and drink on the cobblestone streets of the Glenwood Avenue Arts District in our wonderful and historic Rogers Park neighborhood.

Start your day at the Fest with a “Kegs ‘n’ Eggs” brunch at Empirical. From eggs Benedict with house-made beer hollandaise to epic chicken and waffles, you won’t go hungry. Sweet or savory, meaty or vegetarian, Empirical offers something to please everyone. Brunch is at Empirical served every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Follow Me on Friday is one of my efforts to encourage my constituents to sample some of the 49th Ward’s finest restaurants, pubs, businesses and festivals. About once or twice a month on my Facebook page, I post the name and location of a local restaurant, pub, business or festival where I’ll be hanging out after work on Friday. The establishment offers specials for all my Facebook followers and their friends. It’s a great opportunity for you to check out one of the fine local 49th Ward businesses you may not have visited before.
