Governor Pat Quinn is signing the Illinois Civil Unions Bill into law next Monday and we’re having a celebration! Join me for a special FOLLOW ME ON FRIDAY, this Friday, January 28th, 5-7 p.m., at theGlenwood Bar, 6962 N. Glenwood. We’ll raise a toast to this historic new law and recommit ourselves to the fight for full marriage equality.
The new law will let gays and lesbians use civil unions as a way to gain several of the same rights as married couples, including sharing a nursing home room to being involved in important end-of-life decisions. Heterosexual couples can also opt for civil unions instead of marriage.
“Follow Me on Friday” is one of my efforts to encourage my constituents to sample some of the 49th Ward’s finest restaurants, pubs and businesses. Each week on my Facebook page, I post the name and location of a local restaurant, pub or business where I’ll be hanging out after work on Friday. The establishment offers specials for all my Facebook followers and their friends. It’s a great opportunity for you to check out one of the fine local 49th Ward businesses you may not have visited before.
