Don’t forget the “TRASH TO TREASURE SWAP” coming up this weekend!
Sponsored by my office, the 49th Ward Green Corps and the City of Chicago Department of Environment, the Swap is like a big yard sale–only everything is free! You drop off things you no longer want or need on one day and come back the next day to take home a “treasure” that someone else doesn’t want, but might prove useful to you. It’s our way of keeping reusable resources in our community and out of landfills.
The Swap will be held at 2017 W. Howard (just west of Damen) , former site of the Dearborn Wholesale Store and Hi Neighbor Grocery.
On Saturday, October 4th, from 12 Noon to 4:00 p.m., drop off your old “trash”–things that are still usable for others but no longer have a place in your home. Come back on Sunday, October 5th, to take home a “treasure” or two.
Those who drop off items on Saturday get a ticket to the “Preview Pick-Up” for first dibs on others’ unwanted stuff. The Preview Pick-Up will take place on Sunday, October 5th from 12 Noon to 2:00 p.m. After the Preview Pick-Up, the doors will open from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and everyone is welcome to TAKE IT ALL AWAY!
Below are some examples of items you might want to swap:
Kitchen utensils & pots & pans
Leftover Wrapping Paper
Baby strollers & furniture
DVD’s & CD’s
Divided plants-share hostas!
Canned goods &
Please DO NOT bring clothing, shoes, computers or hazardous materials.
This is an ideal time to unload yourself of items you no longer need and/or acquire that special something you’ve been looking for.
Start going through your attic or storage locker, and join us on October 4th and 5th!
