If you’re looking for something fun (and free) to do this weekend, Touhy Park is the place to be. Located at 7358 N. Paulina (at Jarvis), Touhy Park will host two fun events–49th Ward Bicycle Day and Shakespeare in the Park.
Alderman Joe Moore’s 49th Ward Bicycle Day
“Pedal Party in the Park”
Saturday, July 11th
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Join me for a fun-filled morning and afternoon of activities in Touhy Park focused on bicycles and bike safety.
Whether you’re a hardcore bicycling enthusiast, or simply want to spend a nice summer day riding bikes with your kids, this is the place to be. Local businesses and community organizations will offer the following:
- Bike safety checks
- Helmet fittings
- Cycling merchandise
- Gift certificates
- Rider safety tips
- Children’s activities
The Recyclery, Rogers Park’s used bicycle collective, will be accepting donations of used bikes, and theRogers Park Parent’s Group will host some kid-friendly activities for all ages. Mayor Daley’s Bicycling Ambassadors will also be on hand with a table of activities for kids and adults. We’ll also be joined by folks from the Active Transportation Alliance (formerly the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation).
Many thanks to Roberts Cycle, 7054 N. Clark, for providing the safety checks, helmet fittings, cycling merchandise and gift certificates.
I am proud to have the 49th Ward Green Corps as one of the sponsors of Bicycle Day.
Shakespeare in the Park
“Romeo and Juliet”
Saturday and Sunday, July 11th and 12th
5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Join me for an outdoor production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, presented by Purple Bench Productions. This is a Shaekespere play for people of ages. In a review of the production, the Chicago Reader heralded the “vibrant supporting cast” and the “rattling fight scenes.” The paper went on to write that “seeing [Shakespeare] done well, for free, on a sunny day in the park, is something special.” For the full review, click here.
Come to the park and see for yourself!
I look forward to seeing you in Touhy Park this weekend!
